Here's some specialty terrain for Konflikt '47 and similar Weird War games. A 'Tobruk' or a ringstande, was a small fortification made of concrete, usually at least partially buried and mounted with a salvaged tank turret. They were made most famous at...you guessed it! Anyway, this one mounts a Schwerfeld projector, which is actually some kind of gravity weapon but it looks like a good representation of a laser turret to me.
The recipe for this is straightforward. MDF base cut to size and beveled, chopped skinny popsicle sticks for the boardwalk and breastwork, up against cut packaging foam shaped and glued together at an interetsing angle to represent the bunker. Scrap foam is used in front of the breastwork to add bulk and is then covered first in Sculptamold and then in presanded grout, with spillover into the breastwork to make it look realistic (sand gets everywhere as you know...). The door is scratch built out of bits of plasticard and chipboard. There is a piece of magnetic strip on top of the roof to hold the magnetized Schwerfeld turret in place.
I got these cool 1920s/30s era cars at the flea market today. They are too big at 143rd scale, but they look pretty good next to heroic 28 mm, which are probably around 1:50 scale.

Splendor of Fire is the online journal of the In Hoc Signo Society, a union of Christian wargamers and adventure gamers.
Splendor of Fire is a throwback to the Golden Age of the Internet, when everyone had their own websites and centralized platforms with their pay-for-play and algorithmic censorship were only a glimmer in the bright, dead, alien eyes of the technocrats. We are dedicated to the hobbies of miniature wargaming and tabletop RPGs, not shilling for big companies. We use miniatures from ‘unapproved’ manufacturers, make our own army lists, and play out of print games and ‘obsolete’ editions.
Here you will find hobby journals, tactical studies, battle reports, miniature and book reviews, essays on gaming philosophy, commentary on the passing scene, and whatever else our membership finds notable. We will also host periodic online wargaming campaigns and chronicle them here.
